LEARN TO TURN
Introduction to Turning
Two Day Workshop
When: June 29th and 30th
Instructor: Mario Messina
Cost: $249 + $15 materials fee
Learn turning in our lathe workshop area from a skilled Designer Craftsman. In this turning workshop, students will be introduced to proper and safe use of the lathe to turn a small, hardwood bowl and turn spindles. Students will be introduced to several common tools and taught how to use them properly and sharpen them.
FROM LOG to LATHE:
INTRODUCTION TO GREEN TURNING
Two Day Workshop
When: June 13th to the 15th
Instructor: Mario Messina
Cost: $399 +$25 materials fee
This two day workshop will focus on turning bowls from unseasoned log blanks using the once turned method. Students will explore the once versus twice turned techniques, how to process to logs into bowl blanks, selecting for grain orientation and shape, design considerations, strategies for mounting blanks on the lathe, how to dry finish a bowl, and sanding and finishing techniques.
Ample time of the lathe will allow students to develop and refine their turning
techniques; Materials and tools will be provided however students are welcome to bring their own bowl blanks and/or turning tools. Some prior turning experience is a prerequisite for this workshop.
